What is a plinth block?

A plinth block is a decorative block of wood or other material that is placed at the base of a door frame or at the foot of a column or pilaster. It serves as a transition between the baseboard or molding and the floor, preventing the baseboard or molding from looking uneven or unfinished. Plinth blocks often have ornamental designs or carvings, and can be made from a variety of materials such as wood, stone, or tile. They are typically installed with adhesive and/or nails and can be painted or stained to match the surrounding trim. Plinth blocks are a popular design element in traditional and historic homes, but can also be used in modern architecture to add visual interest and detail.
